We Won’t Be Fooled Again

May 15, 2013

“Recently, I was shocked to see some conservatives misled by propaganda sent out by Blueprint North Carolina. The shadowy network of Blueprint has expertise in deceptive and manipulative tactics. We need to be aware and educate others as much as possible. Please read this excellent guest post written by Susan Myrick, election policy analyst and investigative reporter for NC Civitas. This post includes a partial list of BluePpint NC affiliates. It would be wise to keep this list handy. Look for any connections you see from sources of any political reporting or activity. This is a great way to make sure we won’t be fooled again!” – Donna Mauney

It appears that Senator Tommy Tucker recently became a target of a liberal non-profit organization named Progress NC. An exchange between Tucker and Hal Tanner, Publisher of the Goldsboro News Argus and president of the North Carolina Press Association, provided fodder for the liberal organization to generate online ads and do a little fundraising at Tucker’s expense.

The disagreement between Tucker and Tanner came after a vote (in committee) on Senate Bill 287. SB 287 would allow a select group of local governments to opt out of posting public notices in newspapers (which is now required by law). Evidently public notices generate a lot of money for newspapers.

After the vote, from all accounts, Tanner said something Tucker didn’t appreciate and Tucker replied in kind. According to press accounts, both gentlemen remember the exact account differently, but let’s face it the President of the North Carolina Press Association is going to win this one… It didn’t take long for Tanner to get his side of the story out to news outlets across the state and nation.

Just a few weeks ago, another liberal organization, Blueprint NC, was embroiled in a scandal targeting the Governor and the Republican leaders in the legislature. A leaked strategy memo that described the game plan that “progressive” groups should use to attack the Republican Governor and leaders in the Republican-majority House and Senate was circulated at a Blueprint NC meeting. Blueprint NC acts as a coordinating group for the state’s many liberal organizations – like Progress NC.

Here are a few of the memo’s recommendations:

1. “Crippling their leaders ([Gov.] McCrory, [House Speaker] Tillis, [Senate President Pro Tem] Berger etc.).”

2. “Eviscerate the leadership and weaken their ability to govern.”

3. “Pressure McCrory at every public event.”

4. “Private investigators and investigative reporting, especially in the executive branch.…”
The memo is a strong forecast of tactics we will see with increasing frequency as we approach the 2014 election.

There are so many liberal organizations in North Carolina, it is really hard to keep up with them. And, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that the mainstream media plays a role in the liberal left’s strategy, take for instance WRAL whose owners are deeply entangled with Blueprint NC and its allies. This story from the Civitas Institute shows the relationship Jim Goodman and his family have to Blueprint NC and many other ultra-liberal organizations. And, another story that ties North Carolina’s liberal organizations to ACORN.

Here is a list of organizations that have made it on to the Blueprint list of members at one time or another. Most get much of their funding from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation – just like Progress NC.
