The March For Life Goes On

January 28, 2013

I was blessed with the opportunity to attend the 2013 annual March for Life in DC this past Friday, as well as the Stand True Youth Rally on Thursday.  The youth rally featured wonderful speakers including Lila Rose, Abby Johnson, Jeanne Monahan, Bobby Schindler (Terri Schiavo’s brother), Father Frank Pavone, and many others! Please watch the video below of Melissa Ohden sharing a little bit of her story of surviving a saline abortion. I was also very touched by Kelly Clinger and her husband sharing their story of Kelly’s two abortions and how they came to find healing and redemption.

Many of the speakers talked about ways to get involved whether that is just talking to friends and family about abortion, becoming a sidewalk counselor/praying in front of abortion mills, or advocating for pro-life legislation on federal and statewide levels. I would encourage you to find some way, however small, to get involved. If you live in the Charlotte, NC area, Cities4Life is a wonderful ministry that I highly recommend. They have a training session coming up this Friday and Saturday (Feb 1st and 2nd).  Their mission is: “to engage, strengthen, and support local churches and Christians to proclaim, protect, and provide LIFE for unborn babies in each city across America where abortion exists.”

Crowd estimates of the 2013 March For Life range from 500,000-650,000. Whatever the exact numbers, the crowd was certainly massive.

Rick Santorum speaking at the March For Life Rally: “You are the voice of the voiceless. You are those who stand for love in a world of death. And we are proud to be here with you.”

It’s hard to adequately describe the feeling of standing shoulder to shoulder amidst hundreds of thousands of people who are passionately pro-life. It was encouraging to see so many young people in attendance. We are the pro-life generation. We survived Roe vs. Wade, but 1/3 of our generation did not. I truly believe we are the generation who will end abortion for good.

It was an honor to speak briefly with the former Senator and to thank him for fighting for the weakest and most vulnerable among us. Senator Santorum courageously led the fight to ban partial-birth abortion when he was in the Senate. With leaders like Rick Santorum and so many passionate pro-life activists and wonderful pro-life ministries – I am more hopeful than ever that we can and will end abortion in my lifetime. I will never stop believing, I will never stop praying, and I will never ever stop fighting. Will you join me?
