S353 was brought to the Senate floor around 6pm today and the Senate voted to concur with the House changes on a vote of 32-13. S353 will now be sent to the Governor for him to sign, which he has publicly declared he will do. This is a huge victory for women and unborn babies in NC!
The pro-life provisions in this bill include:
* S353 orders the state Department of Health and Human Services to develop regulations that in some instances might be as stringent as outpatient surgery centers if applicable, “while not unduly restricting access.” The bill also allows the state to develop temporary rules without legislative approval, and eventually come up with permanent rules.
*Physicians would have to be physically present throughout the entire surgical abortion procedure and “in the same room as the patient” when she takes the first dose of a drug for a chemically-induced abortion such as RU-486.
*The bill would prohibit gender-selective abortions, curb abortion insurance coverage and expand the type of medical professionals that can conscientiously object to participating in abortions.
Way to go, Team Blue! I am so proud of all the pro-life legislators and activists/organizations who have worked hard for these pro-life provisions. It’s important that we take the time to thank these folks for everything they’ve done to fight for LIFE! Please also contact Governor McCrory and ask him to keep his promise by signing S353.
