This is a developing story (http://www.examiner.com/article/north-carolina-man-brags-on-facebook-about-voting-multiple-times-for-obama). Thanks to good citizens who saw this alleged voter fraud posted on Facebook and were quick to take action by reporting it to state and county boards of elections.
The authorities seem to be taking this seriously and are investigating it. A citizen who reported this received these email responses today from Carteret County Board of Elections.
I looked at the link you sent and saw the additional comment and have forwarded all of the information I have received to the investigator with the NC State Board of Elections. I just received an email from…the State Board requesting any information we have regarding the postings and I have forwarded all of the emails and information to him. I assure you that we checked our records in Carteret County as soon as we received the information and have done so again today as well with no record of a Jim Turner voting at any of our sites or by absentee. The NC SBOE will investigate the allegations.
I’ve received two emails regarding an alleged Facebook posting made by a “Jim Turner” of Pine Knoll Shores. We have a James W. Turner on our registration books with a Pine Knoll Shores address as well as a James Palmer Turner with a Pine Knoll Shores address. There is no record of either of them voting at any of our four one-stop sites and neither have requested an absentee ballot by-mail. We have a one-stop site in Beaufort but have no voting which has been taking place in Emerald Isle so I have no idea what he may be referring to with that particular part of his statement.
This message was forwarded to me by one of our County Commissioners.
The ongoing investigation should confirm whether or not Mr. Turner actually voted multiple times. Regardless, it won’t change the fact that this type of voter fraud has occurred before and could happen again. In fact, it seems to have become so well-accepted in some corridors that it probably emboldens voters like Jim Turner to brag about it on Facebook.
It does not help that NC already has a very shaky election system. I commend citizen watchdogs for caring enough to get involved. Many more citizens need to join in. Together we can educate the public about voting problems and push for the changes our state needs to make.
Please continue to follow this story. Share it with all of your friends. Blog about it. Do your part by documenting any questionable voting activities and report them immediately to the county board of elections. We must take action now in order to protect the integrity of our elections!
